2 suspected assassins gunned down in Lagos

IT was end of the road, weekend, for two suspected assassins in Lagos as they were felled by police bullets after a fierce gun battle. The two suspects said to have been on the wanted list of the Lagos State police command, were alleged to be behind several murder cases in Ikorodu, an outskirt of Lagos.

Reports said one of the assassins whose name was simply given as Moshudi alias ‘SP’ and his unnamed cohort who allegedly worked for a notorious land grabber in the area also known as Sir ‘K’, were involved in serial killings and subsequently declared wanted by the police in 2008.

 Police declaration
He had allegedly shot dead a 78-year-old man, Mr. Kokumo Hassan, and  his 13-year-old grand daughter, Miss Nike Ajayi over land matter. Following police declaration, they were said to have gone into hiding but resurfaced recently and continued their criminality.

Sources said the wanted criminals met their waterloo, weekend, after they resurfaced in Igbogbo area of Ikorodu, where they were alleged to have concluded plans to kill an unnamed octogenarian, when the lid was blown open. Consequently, Crime Alert gathered that youths of the area promptly alerted the police who responded accordingly and, with some of the able-bodied men, gave the killer squad a hot chase.
While  being chased, the suspects opened fire on the team of policemen from Igbogbo Division while the police responded accordingly.

During the cross fire, ten persons including a seven-year-old boy who was playing football with his peers were hit by the assassins’ bullets. Undaunted, the team of policemen intensified their chase forcing the assassins to run into a swampy spot where their get away motor bike got stuck.

The police reportedly rained bullets into their limbs and got them arrested. Crime Alert was told that they later died on the way to the hospital. Before their death, however, reports said they confessed to the police that they were allegedly hired by one Kamoru alias Sir ‘K’even as they gave the address of their hideout as Ejina in Ikorodu. The visibly elated policemen who achieved the rare  feat celebrated the death of the wanted criminals and even paraded the corpses of the suspects at the front of the Igbogbo Police station.

Men, women and even youths who could muster enough courage thronged the division  to catch a glimpse of the killers. Crime Alert was further informed that the police immediately stormed the suspects’ hideout where they recovered four AK 47 assault riffles and several live ammunition.

Meanwhile, the critically injured lad who was hit by bullets in his scrotum is presently at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja where doctors are battling to save his life. The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Joseph Jaiyeoba, who confirmed the shootout described the suspects as “notorious criminals who have been on the wanted list of the police.” He said the police have begun manhunt for the said Sir’ K’ who the suspects indicted in their confession before they died.
