5 People including two blood brothers, died weekend after an auto crash in Ikare-Akoko in Akoko Northeast Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Eye witness said that three boys were crushed to death and two others terribly injured in the crash involving a lorry with Lagos State number plate XC 476 GGE and three commercial motorcycles popularly called Okada.
It was gathered that the crash was as a result of an alleged brake failure of the lorry which crushed the three motorcycles.
Vanguard learnt that the accident occurred along Ikare–Okeagbe expressway in front of Akoko Anglican Diocese Cemetery.
An eye witness who spoke with newsmen at the popular Osele Market gave the name of the deceased as Ebuka and one Okada man known simply as Taye.
It was gathered that two others who were injured and rushed to the State Specialist Hospital, Ikare-Akoko by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC later died in the hospital Sunday.
A source who spoke on condition of anonymity said “the lorry was said to have arrived from Lagos the previous night with a faulty brake, only for the driver to start testing the brake after he got a mechanic to repair it that morning.”
It was gathered that the driver entered a T- junction with high speed where he crushed the commercial motorcycles.
Vanguard learnt that the driver who did not sustain any injury is now in the Police custody.
Contacted, the Police image maker, Adeniran Aremu, confirmed the accident and blamed the driver for the accident.
Aremu said that three persons including the two brothers died on the spot and that two others died in the hospital yesterday.
