Apo 6: Court orders arrest of photographer

The ongoing trial of six Police officers accused of complicity in the extra-judicial killing of six traders at Apo Mechanic Village, a suburb in Abuja, in 2005, took a new dimension Wednesday, as an Abuja High Court in Maitama ordered the immediate arrest of a lead prosecution witness in the matter, Mr. Chukwudi Chukwu.

Mr. Chukwu, an independent photographer, earlier confessed before the Mike Okiro Panel of inquiry that investigated the case that he was contracted by the indicted Police officers to take photos of the lifeless bodies of the victims who were summarily executed on their way from a night party.

He equally testified before the panel that as at the time he came to the Garki Police Station, he saw dead bodies on the ground with an array of weapons, and was ordered by the Divisional Officer, Mr. Othman Abdulsalam, currently at large, to snap them.

Justice Bello, Wednesday, ordered the immediate arrest of the photographer, following his alleged refusal to appear before the court to testify.

The deceased were Ifeanyi Ozo, Chinedu Me-niru, Isaac Ekene, Paulinus Ogbonna, Anthony Nwoki-ke and Augustine Arebun (female), all aged between 21 and 25.
