Two Bank Robbers Shot Dead In Ilupeju

Nemesis caught up with four bank robbers who were operating on two motorcycles yesterday. They were shot dead by the police during a gun fight after they had successfully robbed a bank customer of the N280,000 he had withdrawn from the bank.
We learnt that the victim was trailed to a new generation bank at Ilupeju by the robbers. As he stepped out, they snatched his bag containing the money.

To scare people in the vicinity, it was gathered that the robbers started shooting sporadically into the air.

The commotion that ensued caught the attention of the chairman, Odi-Olowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Lagos State, Mr. Adeyemi Alli who was at a meeting with Police Command Area Commander, ACP Akpan.

Alli, who was holding a security related meeting with a team led by the ACP, urged the Area Commander’s team to give the robbers a hot chase.

According to eyewitnesses, the policemen caught up with the fleeing robbers at Oworonshoki junction on the Oshodi-Gbagada expressway.

They reportedly engaged the four robbers in a shootout during which two of them were killed and the other two arrested.

Policemen immediately recovered the bag containing the N280,000 which the victim withdrew from the bank and handed it over to the owner.

The corpses of the two dead robbers have been deposited at the Ikeja General Hospital mortuary while the two injured robbers were moved to the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja.

Meanwhile, residents of Ilupeju and the LCDA have commended the council boss, Alli for his security consciousness and the police who reacted promptly to the distress call which led to the killing and arrest of the robbers.(pm news)
