The Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria, Alvaro Aguilar, said in Abuja on Monday that Nigeria’s rich culture had enhanced the bilateral relations between both countries.
Aguilar told the News Agency of Nigeria, that Nigeria’s rich culture was being felt in Spain adding that the country had bought into Nigeria’s way of life.
“It is a pleasure to work with Nigerian authorities and to make the rich culture of Nigeria now felt in Spain,” Aguilar said.
The envoy said culture has a very big advantage in the world and culture belongs to all of us and not to one country or nation.
“Culture should not be seen only in terms of benefits but as a mutual understanding to make us understand ourselves better,” he added.
The envoy said that the cultural relations between both countries had been very robust.
“Our cultural relation is doing very well and we have been working with several cultural institutions in Nigeria for some time.’’ he said
Aguilar said that it was against this backdrop that the Spanish government gave a special price to a young Nigerian artist at its annual cultural week, stating that Spain was prepared to assist upcoming artists in the country.
The envoy added that the winner had also been awarded a trip to Spain to enable him participate at the international contemporary art festival.
