A Pakistani, Bukhari Syed Ahmed Waseem and a Nigerian, Benjamin Okereke
alleged to have conspired to import illicit drug into Nigeria have been
arraigned before a Federal High Court in Lagos, southwest Nigeria.
The court however ordered that the two suspects be remanded in prison custody pending when their trial will commence.
In a three-count criminal charge number FHC/N/204C/12 filed before the court by the National Drug Law enforcement Agency, NDLEA, it was alleged that sometime in February 2012, the Pakistani, conspired with Chukwudi Okereke now at large to import 13 kilogrammes of heroin into Nigeria and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 14b of the NDLEA Act, Cap. N.30, Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
It was further alleged that Benjamin Okereke on 1 February this year at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja aided the Pakistani to import the said 13 kilogrammes of heroin into Nigeria.
The Pakistani was arrested during the inward clearance of a Quatar Airline flight from Pakistan.
The presiding judge, Justice John Tsoho while granting the request for accelerated trial of the accused persons ordered that the Pakistani and his alleged Nigerian co-conspirator be remanded in Ikoyi Prison custody till 25 September, 2012 when their trial will commence.
