5,000 Naira Note: Sanusi Plans To Reduce Nigeria’s Population

The Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Transport, Bisi Yusuf, has accused the Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido, of attempting to reduce the population of Nigeria through policies that would kill a lot of the ordinary people in the country.

The lawmaker expressed wonder as to why the CBN Governor would unilaterally take decisions concerning the huge population of the country without considering that the country was currently running a democratic government that allows the people some input on how they are governed.
Yusuf, who reacted to the planned introduction of the N5,000 note by Sanusi, likened Nigeria to a sick patient that could die with the wrong prescription.

“It is just a way of giving a sick person a drug to kill him quickly. This is what Sanusi is planning to do to Nigeria,” he said.
The former Chairman of the Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos, southwest Nigeria, reminded Sanusi that the country has been on life support having survived many hardships.
“Sanusi knows that the only way to quicken the death of the country and the poor masses is to introduce this kind of policy with the end goal of reducing the population of the country.

“I don’t see any other reason for the introduction of this wicked policy. How many people would be able to handle it?
“What is the minimum wage of the workers in the country? How would they carry out transactions with such huge denomination?” he queried.
He also recalled that the Central Bank Governor was a radical and progressive minded when we were in the university and wondered what had come over him since taking up government appointment.
“As a student of history, he should recall that the coins earlier introduced into the country have all disappeared because nobody would use them.

“He must reconsider his stand on this policy because I can tell you that the N5,000 denomination is going to devalue the N100 denomination. It will also aid corruption,” he added.
The lawmaker urged Nigerians to stand up against the policy as timidity was taking a toll on the country.
“I am quite sure that if it is debated today, majority of the people would reject it because it is not going to be a catalyst for development,” he said.
