The petitioner, Mr. Uche Nwosu who is seeking the dissolution of his marriage to his wfe, Christiana Nwosu, told the Agege Customary Court in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria that he had to leave the house in order to save his life from a cantankerous wife who made life difficult for him.
He begged the court to grant his prayers and grant him custody of his three children because they will be better off with him.
The petitioner alleged that he packed out of his house on 29 May, 2011 when the verbal and physical assaults from his wife became unbearable.
Narrating how he packed out of the house, he said he was at home watching television with the children that fateful day day when his wife barged in at 8p.m. and switched off the television. “She started screaming at me, accusing me of being responsible for her missing an appointment that evening in which she was to make some money,” he stated.
The petitioner explained that he told her earlier to make alternative plans for the children because he would not be at home to take care of them so she could meet her appointment. He alleged further that the respondent went into his room, took some money from his drawer, claiming that would serve as reimbursement for her wasted efforts.
Nwosu told the court further that he restrained himself from arguing with her because his children were watching them, adding that he decided to pack out of the house thereafter.
He urged the court to restrain her from harassing him further by annuling the marriage. The case has been adjourned till 15 August for judgment.
