Man Docked For Issuing Fake Cheque In Lagos

A 49-year old businessman, Harry Patrick has been arraigned before an  Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, for allegedly paying for the goods he bought with a dud cheque.

He bought the goods from Benjamin Iyam, also a business man. Patrick, who was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri, allegedly issued N550,000 bank cheque with number 17587323 for N550,000 to Iyam for the goods he bought.

The incident happened at 2, Akioye Estate, Pab bus stop, Ikotun, Lagos.
Initially Iyam did not suspect any foul play and delivered the goods to him. It was when he went to the bank to cash the money that he discovered that Patrick did not have any money in the account. When Iyam went to Patrick to demand for his money, he discovered that Patrick had sold all the goods and refused to pay his debt.

He went to Ikotun police division and reported what happened. And the police arrested Patrick and charged him to court on a two-count charge of obtaining goods under false pretence and stealing.
Patrick pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs M. B. Folami granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum.He was  remanded in prison custody at  Kirikiri, Apapa because he could not fulfill his bail condition.  The matter was adjourned till 17 August, 2012 for mention.
