Mr Charles Muka, the Police Public Relations Officer, said in Asaba that one other suspect was lynched by a mob.
He said four of the suspects were killed by the Warri Anti-kidnapping patrol team, while attempting to recue Chevron worker, Amadi Chinedu, kidnapped by the suspects on 1 August.
He also said that on the same date, another gang of four was killed at Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area by police officers on routine stop-and-search duty during a gun dwell.
Muka said the nineth suspect was lynched by angry mob in Warri, while his injured accomplice was rescued by police, adding that the rescued suspect was helping police in its investigation.
According to him, on 1 August, the police in Warri received information that Chinedu, a worker with Chevron, was kidnapped.
“The Anti-kidnapping team caught up with the gang at Eku, Ethiope East Local Government Area and in a shoot out, four of the gang members were shot down while the victim was rescued unhurt.
“Also on the same date, a team of SARS Operatives at Ozoro, while on routine stop-and-search duty, intercepted a BMW car with registration number MT 606 ABC with five occupants.
“The driver sped off when flagged down and the suspects opened fire on the policemen, who fought back and four members of the gang terrorising the Ozoro areas were shot down and one escaped with bullet wounds.
He said items recovered from the kidnappers and armed robbery suspects included; six cut-to-size guns, one G3 riffle, five live cartridges, three vehicles, including the BMW.
Muka said that police also on July 25 arrested two other suspected armed robbers at Abraka when the hoodlums were sharing their loot.
He said one laptop computer, N13, 000; US dollars, Sim Cards and cell phones were recovered from them.
The spokesman said efforts were being made to arrest the fleeing members of the gang, adding that those arrested would be charged to court when investigation was concluded.
