MAULAG: ASUU To Sue Education Minister

The University of Lagos branch of  the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU),  has threatened  to sue the Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Rufai for addressing the institution as Moshood Abiola University (MAULAG) at public functions.

Chairman of the union, Dr Karo Ogbinaka who issued the threat  at a news conference in Port Harcourt yesterday, said the union is set to go to court on the issue.

 “We have been watching the minister at public functions, addressing UNILAG as MAULAG, despite a court order that the name UNILAG should remain, pending proper legislation on the amendment bill that sets up the institution at the National Assembly and, of course, the consideration of the university’s community,” he noted.

According to him, the minister had addressed UNILAG as MAULAG at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, but was cautioned but she had refused to desist from this anomaly. “We are seriously watching her to address UNILAG as MAULAG again, after which we would sue her for contempt of court,” Ogbinaka said.(nationalmirror)
