Landlord Charged For Removing Tenant's Roof

A 39-year-old Lagos landlord, Friday Obaje, was on Wednesday docked before a Surulere Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly removing the roof of a house occupied by his tenant.

Obaje is facing a two-count charge of damage and causing breach of peace. He, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Adelekan Ewumi, told the court that Obaje had on April 23 removed the roof of a house located at 1 Obaje close, Ebute Meta, Lagos, being occupied by one Mr Michael Njoku, a tenant.
Ewumi said that the landlord in the process damaged the rug carpet and some other household equipment worth N150,000 belonging to the complainant.

He said the offences contravened Sections 166(d) and 348 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
Magistrate A.O. Soladoye granted the accused N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Nov. 2 for mention.
