The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested Martins Okon, a
23-year old suspected drug baron, in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital,
Southsouth Nigeria.
Mrs Ruth Obi, the NDLEA Commander in Akwa Ibom, disclosed this to newsmen in Uyo on Tuesday.
She said four other suspects, Sunday Ibanga, 44, Okokon Ekong, 33, Daniel Ekpong, 43, and Emem Ekong, 39, were also arrested.
Obi said that Okon had been on the agency’s wanted list for some time.
“When we raided his residence at 115 Nwaniba Road, Uyo, he jumped out through the window with two briefcases.
“We suspected that the briefcases could be exhibits. His room happened to be the only room in the house without a burglar-proof, which means he kept it open as an escape route.
“The officers went into his room and discovered kits of drugs as well as empty bullet shells,” she said.
The NDLEA chief said when Okon was interrogated, he alleged that the three bullet shells picked from his room were the shells of the bullets used for the assassination of his father.
Obi said Okon and the other suspected drug dealers would be charged to court as soon as investigation was concluded.
