The Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona has given
kudos to leading telecoms provider, Globacom for injecting pomp and
dynamism into the annual Ojude Oba festival which held in Ijebu Ode
yesterday.
The carnival had in attendance the Senate President, Senator David Mark and the Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun among other dignitaries.
Oba Adetona who was visibly excited said Globacom had brought so many innovations to the festival, thereby turning it to a world-class carnival which had attracted people from across Nigeria and the rest of the world. He described Globacom’s Chairman, Dr Mike Adenuga as a pride not only of Ijebuland but the entire country. “Adenuga has elected to add value to the cultures and traditions of the Nigerian people in a way that no one else has ever done. Posterity has embossed his name in gold with this and other services that he has rendered to humanity through Globacom,” he said, while calling on other well-meaning individuals to emulate the good deeds of Adenuga.
The Ojude-Oba Pavillion was a beehive of activities as different age grade groups, adorned in colourful attires danced to rhythmic drum beats to pay homage to the paramount ruler. The Senate President who was the special guest of honour at the carnival, enthused that Ojude-Oba was a convergence of fashion and colour as well as a treasured avenue of contributing meaningfully to the unity and development of Ijebuland. While lauding Globacom for turning the festival around, Senator Mark added that the place of cultural activities as agent of unity and development could not be over emphasised.
The Globacom’s stand was the cynosure of all eyes as the young and old trooped to the stand to buy sims, recharge cards, register their sims and try their luck at winning exciting gifts. Six age grade groups won monetary awards at the ceremony. They were Egbe Olugbadebo Okunrin which won a trophy and cash prize of N750,000, Egbe Mafowoku Okunrin and Egbe Bobagbuyi Okunrin which won N500,000 and N300,000 respectively.
Egbe Arobayo Obinrin won the star prize of a trophy and N750,000 for their incredible display which included pyrotechnics and confetti blast while Egbe Obafuwaji and Egbe Bobajolu Obinrin Basiri won N500,000 and N300,000 respectively.(Dailysun)
