Notorious Cocaine Dealer, Ejike Martins Re-arrested - Nemesis has caught up with an ex-convict, Ejike Martins, who was convicted by
a federal high court in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, over drug-related offences,
bug failed to serve the sentence of two and half years passed on him as he has
been re-arrested.
According to an affidavit sworn to by NDLEA litigation officer, Abdulrauf Danjuma and filed before the court by NDLEA prosecuting counsel, Mr. John Gima, the deponent averred that Ejike Martins was arrested on the 15 March, 2006 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, with 1.2 kilogrammes of cocaine.
The ex-convict was charged with the said offence, convicted and sentenced to two and half years imprisonment by the presiding judge, Justice Abimbola Ogie, on 31 May, 2006.
However, the convict, in connivance, with some persons including a prison official, was released on the way to prison. Consequently, he did not serve the sentence of the two and half years imprisonment but on the 23 August, 2007, the convict was again arrested at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, with 4.460 kilogrammes of cocaine.
He was charged for the offence, convicted and sentenced to concurrent term of five years imprisonment by a federal high court sitting in Kano. He has served the said five years imprisonment and now discharged.
Upon his discharge from the Central Prisons, Kano, on 22 May, 2012, he was re-arrested by the operatives of the NDLEA.
He admitted not serving the sentence of two and half years passed on him on 31 may, 2006 .In view of this admission, the agency is now urging the court to revalidate and re-issue the conviction warrant to make the convict serve the sentence of the said two and half year imprisonment.(PM reports)
