Zamfara Governor Raises Alarm Over Increased Ritual Killings - AbdulAziz Yari Abubakar, the Governor of Zamfara state on Monday, raised the alarm
over the latest wave of ritual killings in the state, describing it as
the height of cruelty in the society, just as police gunned down two
suspected ritual killers in the state.
Yari, who raised the alarm in Gusau during the weekly Juma’at preaching organised by the state Ministry of Religious Affairs, said the current rate of ritual killing would not be condoned by the state government.
He said efforts would be made to rid the state of criminals who are bent on denting the image of the state.
Governor Yari warned those involved in the heinous act to desist from such acts.
He said he would ensure that those involved in the crime were made to face the full weight of the law.
“It is very unfortunate that people will because of want for worldly things kill fellow human beings for ritual. This nonsense must stop in this state, as we will not spare any one involved in this dastardly act, no matter the person’s status in the society,” he warned.
The governor tasked citizens of the state to assist the government in the bid to rid the state of ritual killers by giving valuable information to security agencies.
Meanwhile the police in the state have killed two suspected ritual killers who abducted a five-year-old year school girl, Ehioma Chimara, from Imo State.
Briefing newsmen, the state Commissioner of Police, Akila Usman Gwary, said after a tip off, his men followed the two suspected ritualists who were driving a ash coloured Nissan Sandra with registration number Abuja EZ 12 ABJ on their way to Niger Republic to sell the school girl, who was stolen from her school in Imo State and paid the sum of N6 million which was demanded by the ritual killers.
Gwary said after rescuing the girl from the suspected ritual killers, his men, who had laid ambush on the Sokoto –Zamfara road opened fire which resulted in the death of the two suspected criminals.
The police commissioner said the girl was now in safe custody pending when she would be reunited with her family in Imo State.
He solicited the cooperation of the people in order to chase out criminals from the state.
