Liberian School Bus Driver Charged With Manslaughter

The police at Ogombo Division, Lekki, Eti Osa Lagos, southwest Nigeria, have arrested George Redondo, 35, a Liberian school bus driver for allegedly injuring a motorcycle rider and killing the passenger on the spot.

He was arraigned before an Igbosere magistrate’s court, Lagos on a three-count charge of reckless, dangerous and inconsiderate driving on a  public highway and causing serious bodily injury to one Sunday Yusuf, the rider of a Bajaj motorcycle and the death of one Emmanuel Ehoche,  a passenger on the motorcycle.

The police prosecution alleged in charge suit No. D/47/2012 that the accused on 18 October, 2012 at about 7.55 a.m along Ogombo/Abraham Adesanya Estate Road, 15, Junction, Lekki Phase II in Eti Osa, being the driver of an unregistered red Nissan Serena bus, drove same in a reckless and dangerous manner, lost control and cross to the other side of the road to crush an oncoming motorcyclist, and in the process killed the passenger and injured the rider, who was rushed to the hospital where he is still receiving treatment.
The offences, the prosecutor ASP Julius Oyakhilome stated, contravened sections 25, sub (a), 18 sub (1) and 20 of the RTA cap 27, Vol. 45 laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2012.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and magistrate A.F.O Botoku granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties must show proof of tax payment to the Lagos State government. She adjourned the matter for mention.
The defendant was taken to Ikoyi Prison until he meets his bail conditions.(Credit:PM Reports)
