The police in Ogun State have arrested seven people in connection with the
attempted murder of three brothers, who were on Wednesday abducted during the
invasion of Ayegbe village, near Lisa community in Ifo Local Government Area of
the state.
The timely arrival of policemen from Agbado divisional police station saved the lives of Saheed Owolabi Sosanya, Gbenga Soyemi Sosanya and Abiodun Soyemi Sosanya, who were abducted from Ayegbe and taken to Sonde village.
The police at Sango Area Command have since been on the trail of a village head, identified as Ogunsola Wasiu and others, who allegedly masterminded the attack on Ayegbe, which left no fewer than seven people injured.
A source at the Area Command office said that a heavily armed gang had invaded Ayegbe and attacked people working on a building site in the community, injuring many of them before abducting the three brothers.
The abducted brothers were tied and taken to the Oro Shrine at Sonde village, before policemen from Agbado Divisional Police station got a distress call and swiftly moved to Sonde, where the victims were rescued
One of the victims, Abiodun, while narrating his experience said: “We were on site when two Volkswagen Vanagon buses drove into the village and before we knew anything, about 50 people, armed with cutlasses, guns and other dangerous weapons jumped out of the buses and started shooting.”
“We all ran in different directions. I heard many people shouting but at the end of the day, three of us were captured and beaten thoroughly, before we were tied and taken to the Oro shrine at Sonde village.”
Abbey further stated that the hoodlums, led by a certain Ade Ijaiya, were contemplating beheading the three of them when policemen from Agabdo police station raced to the scene and arrested three people in connection with the incident.
Policemen from Sango Area Command, on being informed that the hoodlums had taken over Ayegbe village and were attacking residents, stormed Sonde village on Thursday morning and arrested the quartet of Awotunde Wasiu, Ayomide Lambo, Oluwagbemile Odugbesan and Kolawole Oseni. They joined in custody, Ganiu Ogunsola and two others, who had been arrested the previous day by policemen from Agbado, after the abducted persons were rescued at Sonde village.
A police source said the police recovered expended cartridges from the scene of the incident at Ayegbe as the rampaging hoodlums reportedly shot all through the night to scare the villagers from mobilising against them.(PM)
