Lagos State To Spend N20 Billion On Lagos-Badagry Road - Nigeria’s Federal Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission,in Lagos state,
Mr. Funsho Olukoga has given a score card of the commission’s performance since
it was inaugurated in May 2012.
Briefing journalists, Olukoga said the commission received 349 complaints in 2012 and 255 complaints were fully resolved.
The commissioner also disclosed that in the last seven months, the commission performed well by identifying with Lagosians and registering itself in their minds.
He explained that in the course of analysing complaints registered with it, the commission became convinced that there was need to focus more on certain areas which could potentially generate complaints from Lagos residents.
He said the commission will focus more and investigate the activities in the aviation, telecommunication sectors and employers of labour, in general, in the new year.
On aviation, he disclosed that the commission will focus on complaints arising from airfares in both domestic and international routes.
“Secondly, if there is sufficient reason to investigate injustice or the breach of rights of Lagos citizens by service providers in the telecommunications industry, we will investigate.
“We will also probe the activities of employers who terminate services of employees without paying them due benefits,” he said.
He explained further that as part of measures to bring the activities of the commission to the people, the commission will embark on sensitisation and collaboration with relevant organs such as consumer protection agencies, labour unions, DPP and law enforcement agencies to ensure that citizens rights are protected.
Apart from these, he assured that the commission would establish units in the local governments where citizens will be sensitised and encouraged them to bring their complaints to the commission.
