Four persons have been killed in a robbery attack launched by a gang
of armed robbers on a luxury bus plying Nigeria’s Okene-Lokoja-Abuja
highway.
The incident occurred when robbers who blocked the highway flagged down a bus coming from Onitsha at a point between Osara and Abobo Villages at about 2 a.m. on Thursday.
The driver reportedly refused to stop, opting to manoeuvre his way through, but his vehicle veered off the road and fell into a nearby ditch.
His action was said to have angered the armed robbers who walked up to him and rained bullets on him, killing him instantly and thereafter started dispossessed the passengers of their monies and other valuables.
It was while this was going on that another luxury bus coming on a high speed from Abuja end of the road ran into the scene and in the ensuing confusion crashed into the first luxury bus in the ditch.
Three persons died instantly while four others were seriously injured. The robbers were said to be unperturbed as they continued with their operation until a detachment of the police got to the scene.
The Kogi State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Sunday Maku, confirmed the accident saying that the buses belonged to Chisco and Ifeanyi Chukwu Transport Companies.
He said that the corpses had been deposited at the morgues of the Federal Medical Centre and the Kogi State Specialist Hospital both in Lokoja where the injured were also being treated for varying degrees of injuries.
