The retired workers at the Nigerian Postal Services, NIPOST today in Sagamu
paralysed activities at the town’s post office while protesting the non payment
of their 43 months arrears owed them.
The pensioners barricaded all roads that led to the post office along Falawe area, Isale -Oko,Sagamu in Sagamu local government area of Ogun state,Nigeria.
Similar protest were carried out yesterday evening at the capital city of Ogun state, Abeokuta where the protesters stormed the post office, chanting different songs.
The State Chairman of the NIPOST Pensioners, Jonathan Ashade burst into tears as he disclosed that no fewer than 347 have died. The protest in Abeokuta was peaceful.
They accused the Post Master General, Mallam Mori Baba of not paying their pension and called for his removal by the Presidency and the National Assembly.
Ashade recalled that the last time the National Assembly intervened in their matter, five months out of the 48 months owed was paid. This was in 2010.
According to the Chairman, “our members are dying because of lack of money. Some are blind, some are mad now and some are dead already. We don’t want to cause violence, we pray that God will allow them to release the remaining 43 months to us”.
