The Family of slain Boko Haram victim appeals to Jonathan over release of corpse

THE family of Mr. Chidi Ogbuji, whose 25-year-old undergraduate son, Chukwuma, was killed in Maiduguri by Boko Haram, has appealed to President Goodluck to assist in ensuring that the corpse was released for proper burial.
Chukwuma Ogbuji, a final year Sociology student of University of Maiduguri, was killed by members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, in one of their attacks in Maiduguri, the Bornu State capital
.

Depressed father of the slain undergraduate, Mr. Chidi Ogbuji, while calling for proper investigation into how his son was killed, also urged the National Assembly and security agencies to assist to release his corpse to the family.
The Ogbujis made the appeal through a four-page petition addressed to  Abia State Police Commissioner, Mr. Bala Hassan.
The deceased, who hailed from Umuezeukwu Nsulu, in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State, was said to have been mowed down by Boko Haram members at about 8pm on January 6, 2012, in his Mairi Ward residence, south of the University of Maiduguri campus.
Chukwuma was said to have been killed alongside his female course mate from Akwa Ibom State.
According to his father, Chukwuma had finished his final year examinations and intended to return home because of high level insecurity in Maiduguri but had to tarry awhile following assurances from various quarters, including the university authorities, state government and security agencies of adequate protection.
He was said to have stayed back to tidy up his project, and having finished with his project, Chukwuma was said to have planned to leave Maiduguri on January 7, 2012, and had spoken with his father on the phone on January 5 requesting for money to travel home.
However, a day after speaking with his father, he was, according to his landlady, gruesomely murdered by three gunmen who arrived in an unmarked vehicle at his residence and began shooting at the late student and his friend.
The gunmen were said to be chanting “Christians and Igbos will die.”
The family lawyer, Mr. J.O.J Okpechi, who wrote the petition, lamented that it was disheartening that the university authorities, state and even  security agencies did not provide adequate security to the helpless students.
