Nigeria gets one more spot at London 2012 Olympics

Jonathan Akinyemi has secured one more spot for Nigeria at the London 2012 Olympics.
The British-born Nigerian, Akinyemi, set an unprecedented record by winning the African Men's K1 competition and thus securing the Olympic ticket for the nation in that category.
He is the first Nigerian to be crowned number one in the sport. Akinyemi dethroned the reigning African Champion, Benjamin Boukpeti of Togo, who also won the bronze medal in the Beijing Olympic games.

Nigeria has never been represented at any Olympics canoe slalom competition before now.

Akinyemi had been competing for England, where he was the junior British nation champion, before relinquishing his ranks to compete for his fatherland, Nigeria.

Plaudits have been raining on the sportsman who has been tipped by both National and International Canoeing Federations as a potential Gold medalist for Team Nigeria at the Olympics.

Akinyemi also humbly appreciated the National Olympic Committee for their huge support.

The London Olympics Games starts on July 25, 2012 while the Canoe slalom will commence on the 29th July, 2012 at Lee Valley White Water Centre, Hertfordshire.
