No fewer than four persons were crushed to death by an articulated vehicle, popularly known as trailer belonging to a manufacturing giant on Saturday at Abule Olokuta in Ilaro, Yewa North local Government Area of Ogun state while three were critical injured.
The cement-laden trailer with registration number JGW XB 14 X, according to an eye-witness was coming from Ibese, the site of the recently commissioned cement plant and headed to Papalanto before it lost control and crushed a white Mazda 323 marked OGUN AJ 07 LAR, killing three occupants instantly who included a baby boy while seriously injuring four others.
We gathered that, the driver of the trailer immediately after the accident took to his heels prompting angry youths to attempt to burn the vehicle, but were prevailed upon by security operatives.
Both Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC and Traffic Compliance Agency Corps, TRACE, confirmed the incident, describing it as unfortunate.
According to Ilaro unit commander of FRSC, Bakare Fatai, the Mazda car had seven occupants instead of five during the incident.
He said the accident occurred as a result of recklessness of the trailer’s driver and carelessness of the Mazda driver.
He however said that, the four corpses have been deposited at Ilaro mortuary while those that were critically injured have been rushed to emergency ward of Ilaro hospital.
According to Bakare the incident occured around 1;30 pm shortly after the Mazda overtook the trailer which was already on high speed in Abule Olokuta, near Ilaro and lost control.
Corroborating the FRSC, one of the officers of Traffic Compliance Agency Corps ,TRACE, in Ewekoro-Papalanto unit, Abiodun Masaku told Vanguard on phone that, he saw the dead bodies.
