Unknown gunmen abducted a woman, Mrs. Sandra Omote, on her way to church on Airport Road, Warri in Delta State, yesterday.
Mrs. Omote was going to her church, Jesus Dominion Church, at about 7am with her husband, Isaac, when armed men intercepted the couple near their Edjeba home and marched them back to their residence at gunpoint.
A source told reporters that after ransacking the home and stealing what they could lay their hands on, the hoodlums left with the man’s wife and his SUV.
The source said the incident was reported to the police at “A” Division, Warri, while a police officer attached to the station, who spoke in confidence, said the matter was under investigation.
It was alleged that a former gate man, who was recently relieved of his job by the couple was behind the kidnap, as the gunmen alluded in the course of their invasion that he was fired unjustly.
Mr. Omote, a businessman, who spoke to us on phone, confirmed that he and his wife were actually going to the church when the gunmen struck.
He said he saw two boys walk into the compound with two local pistols as the gate was opened for them to proceed to the church, and they were ordered at gunpoint to come out of the vehicle.
Mr. Omote said, “My wife and I were marched back to the house by the gunmen, who kept asking me where the dollars I just returned from abroad with were kept and that I should bring out all the money.”
