The Oyo State Police Command said on Tuesday that it was determined to
investigate the sexual assault allegation levelled against a soldier attached to
the PHCN Office in Olorunsogo, Ibadan.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the soldier was alleged to have sexually assaulted a 16-year-old boy on Thursday night.
But reacting to speculations that investigation into the case was being delayed, the state police command said it would ensure an unbiased investigation.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Olabisi Clet-Ilobanafor, told NAN that nobody was above the law.
“Investigations are on and this is contrary to the thinking of the people that the police would shy off the case since it involved a soldier.
“ Let me tell you that there is no matter the police cannot be involved in.
“It doesn’t matter who is concerned, the truth of the matter is that nobody is above the law,” she said.
She also said the police would conduct a parade identification exercise to enable the victim to identify the suspect.
NAN further reports that the victim was taken to the Adeoyo State Hospital, Yemetu, where he was to undergo medical examination.
The father of the victim, Mr. Adekunle Adewole, told NAN that three policemen were detailed to accompany him and his son to the hospital as well as the Letmauck Barracks in Mokola to present the medical report to the military authorities.
The spokesman of the 2 Div. Headquarters of the Nigerian Army, Odogbo, Lt.-Col. Mustapha Anka, told NAN on phone that the incident was being investigated.
