Fuel Subsidy Fraud Trial: Court Turns Down Mahmud Tukur's Travel Request - A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has turned down the request by Mahmud Tukur, son of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Bamanga Tukur, to travel abroad.

Mahmud Tukur is standing trial with Ochonogor Alex, Abdulahi Alao and Eternal Oil Plc over allegation of conspiracy to defraud the Federal Government of over N1.8 billion during the fuel subsidy regime.
They were all granted bail by Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo on conditions which included that their travel documents be deposited with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Ruling on the defendants’ application to travel for various official purposes, Justice Lateefat Folami said it will amount to interference on the bail conditions set by Justice Onigbanjo in the matter.

“Granting this application will be an interferance with the same matter which is before my learned brother Justice Onigbanjo who ordered that their international passports be kept with the EFCC,” she said.
Justice Folami also ruled that granting the defendants permission to travel for Hajj which will hold in October may prejudice the trial of the matter. She subsequently adjourned the matter till 13 November, 2012.

Chai he is trying to escape punishment for his frauds.
