Police Kill Five Suspected Armed Robbers

Five suspected armed robbers were today killed by Policemen attached to Ilasamaja Divisional Police Headquarters in Lagos.

The suspected robbers numbering 12 stormed No.12, Salako Street, Ilasamaja at about 2 a.m.
One of the residents managed to pass a call through to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Ochogwu Ogbe, a Chief Superintendent of Police, SCP, who quickly despatched his anti-robbery squad to the scene of the robbery.

When they saw the policemen, the robbers opened fire on them. During the gun fight that ensued, five of the suspects were killed while the others escaped with bullet wounds.
An eyewitness, Dotun Ayinde said Ilasamaja residents were not always willing to give policemen useful information which could lead to the arrest of criminals living among them.
“Because robbers laid siege to their house, early this morning, that was why they informed the police,” he said.

Items recovered from the robbers include three locally made pistols and catridges.
The corpses of the suspected robbers have been deposited at the Isolo General Hospital mortuary.
The Lagos Police Command Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide confirmed the attack on Friday.
Last year, robbers came in droves to attack residents of Ilasamaja. They later engaged the police in gun battle and three of them were killed.
