Sources in the town said concerns over the monarch's fate heightened yesterday following a failed security operation to apprehend the masterminds of his abduction.
The 70-year-old monarch was snatched by gun-wielding youths from his residence in Ikarama community about nine days ago. His abductors earlier demanded N50million ransom, which they later reduced to N15million on Saturday.

It was gathered that troops of the Joint Task Force moved into a bush in Kaiama, headquarters of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area on Friday, following information that the kidnappers were about to be paid an unspecified amount of money as ransom by his eldest son, identified as Glory.
The criminals, who ostensibly suspected that they were being set up, reportedly backed out at the last minute.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that the wife of the monarch, Mrs. Evelyn Seiba, was on Saturday arrested by the State Police Command.

Nation Evening Express authoritatively gathered that Mrs. Seiba was quizzed by detectives of the command over the family's discussion with the criminals.
Family sources said she was "invited" by the police apparently based on her interaction with her husband's kidnappers over the issue of ransom.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Fidelis Odunna, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed the "invitation", adding that the monarch's wife "was assisting the police in their investigations.”
“They (kidnappers) are trying to be smart; we are smarter than them. We will soon track them,” he assured.
