Twenty Former Police Officers Arrested For Impersonation

Over twenty people were arrested  for impersonating riot police officials since Friday when the Compol Monitoring Team from the Force Headquarter, Abuja raided parts of Lagos, including  Iddo Motor Park and Orile to arrest policemen mounting illegal roadblocks.

Our correspondent learnt that some of the impersonators had long been dismissed from the force.
It was learnt that some of those arrested acquired police uniforms from illegal sources.
The team head of the operation, Superintendent Eyoh Aniete during the operation, said the team was on the ground to sanitise the police force.

He said, “We have begun moves to sanitise the police force, part of the process is what is going on in Lagos; other states will also be patrolled. This is in-line to reform the police as aimed by the Inspector General of police.”
He, however, urged police officers to ensure transparency in the force, stating that was the only way security can be strengthened in the country.
Meanwhile, Oyo State Commissioner of Police,  Mr. Joseph Mbu, has cautioned policemen in the state against acts of indiscipline.
He also warned members of the public to desist from criminality or any action that could trigger trouble in the society.

Mbu gave the warning on Friday during his maiden press conference at the Eleyele Police Command, Ibadan.
According to him, there is a need to ensure sanity within the force as well as the community in the overall interest of the nation.
He said, “I want members of the public to know that the ban on the use of siren is in force and it shall be enforced to the letter. Any unauthorised vehicle or person should desist from violating the law.”
