A 29-year-old man, Muhammed Lawal, has been arraigned before an Ojo
Magistrate Court in Lagos, over alleged theft of Ogbono valued at
N25,000 and other food items totaling N60,000.
Lawal, who is facing a two-count-charge of burglary and stealing, was said to have unlawfully entered a building where food items were kept and committed the crime.
The prosecutor, ASP Friday Eze, informed the court that the accused, of 14 Ajoke Street, Cele Ajangbadi, while on duty as a market security guard on September 3 at 5am, at shop LL Gate market Ajangbadi, burgled the shop of one Emmanuel Mba, a foodstuff seller at the market.
Eze said the accused, who was on duty on that day, was reported by some residents of the area, who claimed to have seen the accused burgling the shop of the complainant.
He was alleged to have taken about 50 pieces of stock fish, popularly called Okporoko, valued N20,000, and a carton of dried fish, valued N15,000.
According to the prosecutor, “the accused was later arrested and detained in police custody.
The alleged offences contravened Sections 285 and 307 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State.”
However, when the plea of the accused was taken before the open court, he pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mr. T. Shomade, granted the accused N50,000 bail, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the matter to November 12 for mention.
