A cow dealer at the abattoir, Agege, Lagos, southwest Nigeria,
Musa Amodu Abubakar, 36, a citizen of Burkina Faso, has been arraigned
before an Ikoyi Magistrate’s Court on a three-count charge of stealing
22 cows.
The police prosecution alleged that the accused was arrested following a complaint by Alhaji Raimi Bolaji that the accused on 1 June, 2010 approached him to give him some cows to sell at the abattoir in Agege. Bolaji obliged and gave Abubakar 33 cows at the rate of N180,000 each with a total value of N3,640,000.
He stated that the accused sold all the cows and remitted only N1,300,000 out of the total sum, and all efforts to collect the balance of N2,340,000 from him have so far proved abortive.
The offence, the prosecutor, Sergeant Abass Abayomi stated, contravened sections 516, 419 and 390 (9) of the criminal code law, cap C 17 Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
During cross examination by the prosecutor, the defendant admitted collecting 33 cows from the complainant but could only remit N1,300,000 into Bolaji’s account.
When asked of the remaining cows or the balance of the agreed money of N3,640,000 he could not give a satisfactory account.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and the magistrate, Mrs. Olumide Fusika, admitted him on bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was adjourned till 8 January, 2013 for the adoption of written addresses of the defence and prosecution team.(PM)
